Joan Di Stefano pioneered the use of stained glass as the main component of modern mosaics, especially in stepping stones and tabletops, first shown at the San Francisco Landscape Show in 1993. Di Stefano's skill is both in the ancient, traditional mosaic style and in contemporary mixed media mosaic.
A local mosaic mural can be seen at Blondie's Pizza in Berkeley, California.
A fireplace mosaic creation of Ms. Di Stefano is included in the published work The Art of Mosaic Design: A Collection of Contemporary Artists by Joann Locktov.
